Supply Chain and Inventory Reporting

Stock, ageing and service level across sites

Stock is cash on a shelf. Seeing it by site, age and reason is the first step to releasing it.

The problem

Inventory reports are run per plant from S/4HANA transactions, pasted together monthly, and show value but not age, reason or service effect. Slow moving and obsolete stock is discovered at year end. Service level is measured by the customer rather than the business. For companies on BW, this is often the first area where the old reports stopped keeping up.

What good looks like

One inventory view across plants

Quantity, value, days cover and ageing on one screen.

Slow and obsolete flagged monthly

Not written off in a hurry at year end.

Service level measured consistently

On time in full by customer, product and site.

Cost to serve

By customer and route, so pricing and service decisions have a number behind them.

How we approach it

01

Step 1

Agree the definitions: days cover, ageing buckets, on time in full.

02

Step 2

Build the inventory and logistics model in SAP Datasphere, or on BW/4HANA where it is staying.

03

Step 3

Build SAP Analytics Cloud dashboards for supply chain and finance.

04

Step 4

Reconcile to the stock accounts and hand over.

Standard content we start from

There is no dedicated inventory package in the SAP Analytics Cloud or Datasphere catalogue. The nearest content is SAP Business Network for Logistics supply chain analytics, Transportation Management order analysis on Datasphere, the Statistical Process Control toolkit (control charts and Nelson rules), and the embedded inventory KPIs in S/4HANA itself.

So the inventory model is custom: days cover, ageing buckets, slow and obsolete flags, on time in full and cost to serve are built in Datasphere or on BW/4HANA for the client. For companies modernising from BW, this is usually the first model to move because it is the one the old reports handle worst.
